But something has marred that connection.

Let's be honest. Personal growth IS a scary subject for many people. The religious are frightened when the discussion centers around change coming mystically from inside you. The non religious don't like putting discussion of God into the mix.

When we are not right with God, guilt plagues us. It may be the taboo's of our parents or our society. It may be our own distorted sense of right and wrong. Whatever it is, our lack of connection with our heavenly Father, Jesus Christ the Son, and the Holy Spirit prevents us from seeing ourself.

To use an analogy, God is the heavenly troubleshooter. When you have difficulty with your computer, you might call me for help. I have expertise with some types of software. And I would help you to the best of my ability. However, there are many aspects of computers that I am not familiar with. (Which is why I am having trouble with my own computer)

However, if I knew a computer guru who knew everything about every computer, he could fix whatever was the problem. He might even see some problems coming, and ask my permission to make changes to my computer system.

God is like that. He knows what works best, and he is working for our best.

There is a lot of help out there. Some of it is couched in new-age terms. Other help sounds just like positive thinking, and sounds suspiciously like we are doing all the work. But the best help takes all this advice, recasts it in a mindset where we can see God at work, and helps us to acknowledge that it takes all of God AND all of our best effort to make the changes that will work. As Jesus said, "The thief comes only to kill, maim and destroy; I am come that you may have abundant life," and, "You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free." And of course, as He said about Himself, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father but by me."
